Not Today Satan Part 2: How to Build a Resilient Mindset
At Christian Cultural Center, we know life inevitably brings trials, but God’s favor equips believers with an unshakeable resilience that refuses to break under pressure. By examining the life of Joseph, Pastor Jamaal Bernard reveals how adopting a kingdom mindset allows you to look past temporary hardship and declare, "Not today, Satan".
From the Pit to the Palace: The Trajectory of Favor
The story of Joseph in Genesis illustrates that walking in God's favor is rarely a straight path to success. Before Joseph stepped into authority in Egypt, he endured rejection, betrayal, false accusation, and imprisonment. His journey highlights five distinct stages of divine trajectory:
Declaration: God reveals His promise and marks you for purpose (Genesis 37:3).
Identity: Embracing who you are in Christ, even when it draws opposition from those around you.
The Pit: The low season where your current circumstances appear to directly contradict God’s promises. Yet, as Pastor Jamaal reminds us, "You can be in a low place and still have a high calling" [15:56–16:08].
The Mindset: Developing spiritual resilience by choosing to see challenges through God's perspective (Romans 12:2).
Trajectory: The eventual fulfillment of God's plan, carrying you from the pit to your version of the palace.
Why Favor Makes You a Target Before a Testimony
Favor often breeds jealousy in a broken world because wounded people frequently envy what they do not possess. However, the delay between receiving a promise and seeing its fulfillment is intentional—it is a maturation process. Pastor Jamaal explains, "In order for that favor to be expressed, become tangible, there's a mature maturation process" [05:57–06:12]. Had Joseph entered Pharaoh's palace immediately after receiving his initial dreams, his youthful immaturity might have destroyed God's ultimate plan.
God uses the pit to dissolve pride and cultivate character. Favor will almost always make you a target before it makes you a testimony. Being in a low place does not diminish your high calling; rather, it prepares you to carry the weight of future influence without losing your alignment with God.
The Anatomy of an Unbreakable Mindset
Resilience requires active control over where you direct your focus. In physical combat and spiritual warfare alike, where the head goes, the body follows; if the enemy can control your perspective, he can control your direction. Pastor Jamaal highlights this essential truth: "Before God changes your situation, he has to change how you see it" [17:26–17:34].
To maintain a resilient posture through life's trials, anchor your thinking in what it truly means to be BLESSED and FAVORED:
Belonging & Location: You belong to God before you become who He called you to be, remaining firmly located in Christ.
Set Apart for Purpose: Your life carries a unique assignment designed by God to meet a specific need in the world.
Alignment with Heaven: Living in agreement with God’s word ensures that when blessings arrive, you possess the character to steward them.
Resilient Under Pressure: Recognizing that spiritual and emotional pressure does not break you—it builds you. Ultimately, "When your mindset is right, your situation loses its power" [38:39].
Elevated for Legacy: God lifts you up so you can lift others, leaving a spiritual impact that extends across generations.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do when my current situation contradicts God's promises? Focus on renewing your mindset rather than reacting to temporary feelings. Being in a pit does not mean God has forgotten you; it is often the essential training ground where God matures your faith. As Joseph declared to his brothers, what was intended for harm, God turns for good (Genesis 50:20).
How does divine alignment affect my personal growth? Alignment ensures your mind, spirit, and character mature at the same rate as your opportunities. Aligning your perspective with heaven prevents premature elevation from leading to personal destruction.
No matter the depth of your current pit or the intensity of the pressure you face, your situation loses its power the moment your mindset aligns with God. Step forward in confidence, hold fast to your divine assignment, and walk daily in the victory of a mindset that refuses to break.
